Features
My guitars are engineered to give effect to my design philosophy.
This results in a number of innovative features, some of which are unique to Bull classical guitars.
  • I utilise a 7 bar fan bracing modified with 3 lateral braces. The longitudinal braces are light but selectively reinforced with carbon fibre. The lateral braces are very fine and are partially lap-jointed with the fan bars. This greatly increases the structural integrity without a weight penalty, allowing the soundboard to be made thinner and more responsive. A typical cedar soundboard weighs around 140 gms fully braced, including both transverse bars. This bracing layout contributes to a bright but warm tone with excellent string separation and tonal range.
  • The neck shaft is detachable from the heel and neck block. The shaft is cradled by an extension of the neck block and is fixed at the heel and cradle. This approach makes for a very rigid neck/body joint, improving longevity and increasing sustain. It also streamlines the construction process and makes belly repairs easier in the event of damage.
  • The neck is braced with a light but rigid carbon fibre composite channel. This reduces the loss of string energy through neck movement and allows a slim neck profile without the risk of excessive forward bow.
  • I use both nut and saddle compensation of the scale length to ensure accurate intonation.
